Books

The Dyslexia Association of IndiaTM (DAITM) believes that pre-school children should have Learning opportunities through play and other relevant experiences. Pre-school is probably the most crucial period for children prior to entering primary school.

The DAITM curriculum is the planned for experiences which are based on its researched copyright & Patented T.R.A.I.NTM Neuroplasticity programme.

The books will ensure that prior to being interviewed by the school for admission, the child who has completed this curriculum will have started to develop the Neural Substrates responsible for Learning to read and write.

The books work in a manner that certain areas of the brain are activated when the child works through this curriculum and cognitive enhancement begins.

Although children develop at different rates and their achievements may vary, all children who complete these books before entry into formal schooling will have a head start in academics.

The DAI™ preschool, Nursery and KG Neuro Plasticity CurriculumTM will ensure children explore, investigate and be creative. They will develop concentration and a range of skills and competencies such as observing, making decisions, problem solving and communicating and can, with the support and guidance of their parents and adults, further enhance their own learning and experience success and develop a positive attitude towards learning.

The books are planned, purposeful, flexible and allow children to follow the subjects sequentially and develop cognitively at their own pace by stimulating their crystallized intelligence.

The emphasis is on

Early Mathematical Experiences
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Physical Development and Movement
The world around the child

The books will allow parents the opportunity to observe their children and make their own assessments based on day-to-day observations of, and interactions with their children in a range of situations.

Parents and teachers can then learn about the children’s interests, experiences, strengths and areas for development. This will help to decide how a particular childs learning can be taken forward, both individually and collectively and over time, an accurate picture will emerge of the progress of your child in each area of learning.

This will also allow Parents and Teachers to understand their child’s strengths, areas where he or she may need additional support or opportunities to learn, and what action is to be taken

There is a difference between being observant as a parent and “planned observation”, which has a clear focus. These books will allow planned observation to identify specific opportunities where parents can help their child communicate with their children, which is crucial.

The DAI™ curriculum will help children who work through these books in their ability to concentrate and persevere with a task, respond to questions, including open- ended questions increase a childs interest in books and stories; and how they relate to formal schooling.

Parents will also be able to observe how their child has learned something new; has grown in confidence or shows a particular interest, is experiencing a specific difficulty and shows understanding beyond what is expected.

The DAI™ books will allow for reflecting and evaluating the children’s confidence level and their interests in the activities provided and help parents understand what additional resources that might enhance their childs learning experience. Regular daily teaching of the curriculum will ingrate in the child aspects of time management and how time is to be used effectively, as they would be purposefully involved in the activity through the day at specific times.

The Curriculum is written in such a way that some of the difficulties that young children experience - which are temporary will be resolved as they read and work with the books as - their learning will be enhanced and challenged and extended beyond what is normally provided for children in a normal school setting.

The Dyslexia Association of IndiaTM books - can if used correctly, prevent the onset and development of Specific Learning Disabilities or Dyslexia. Time spent on these books will regulate the cognitive perseverance and has the possibility to reduce anxiety and hyperkinetic behaviour once a child enters a formal school setting.

Once completed you will see that your childs language skills will emerge gradually with familiarization with key words and phrases, especially those related to their reading and writing along with play and daily routines with a smooth transition from pre-school to primary education.

The Arts

The Arts curriculum will help with understanding new things, experimenting, coming up with new ideas, solving problems and coping with uncertainty.

It will allow them opportunities to explore and share thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of art and design activities and help them to observe, listen to you as a mother or father - and talk about their experiences using appropriate language and to appreciate their own work.

It will help them to think through ideas, to develop visual, spatial and tactile awareness, and develop investigative and manipulative skills. The activities involving drawing at vertical and horizontal levels, using paper of different colours, shapes, textures and sizes;
drawing pictures from direct observation of objects, for example flowers, fruit, experiment with various tools such as crayons, pencils, pastels, brushes, fingers, will help explore colours and textures.

Language Development

Language development is crucial to living and learning and is concerned with more than the growth of vocabulary. The Language books will allow them to learn to communicate with others, to share and express feelings, to give and obtain information, and to understand ideas and develop thoughts.

Listening and communicative skills will be fostered as they will work through activities meant to encourage them to ask open- ended questions and develop language for communication, reading and writing.

New vocabulary will be learnt and encourage children to extend their phrases and sentences.

They will understand that books can provide information and help to answer new questions when the child works on a range of interesting and exciting stories, poetry and rhymes.

Awareness of the printed word will increase as will the expression of their individual thoughts and ideas through drawing, mark making and by writing.

Activities such as making shopping lists will ensure that they develop and interest in individual letters and words through the books provided by the DAI™.

In the course of their introduction to these books, children will become aware of and use other forms of communication, for example pIn the course of their introduction to these books, children will become aware of and use other forms of communication, for example painting, drawing, and other forms of non - verbal communication.

This is important as in India the home language is different than that used in the school and overall language development will be promoted by focus to attention, listen and make appropriate responses by using correct words orthographically.

Almost all
children will show evidence of a growing vocabulary and the development of listening and conversational skills with the ability to express thoughts, ideas and feelings with increasing confidence and fluency. -text3">Mathematical concepts develop slowly in the young child. These books will provide a child with opportunities to experience mathematical ideas in many different contexts like matching socks, putting away shopping or setting the table. They will develop and become aware of opportunities that promote the development of mathematical language and concepts.

The books are designed with specific brain activation abilities that will allow a child to engage in activities, they use their own everyday language to talk about mathematical concepts and language as they develop an awareness of number, order, shape, space, size, quantity, time, pattern, and relationships.

Issues like heavy, longest, another, more, and less will develop, as would the ability to sort, match, compare, classify, count, and make patterns and sequences.

The books allow opportunities to explore and investigate the properties of the materials, time to consolidate their understanding of concepts; and
encourage the use of mathematical language like for example numbers first, last, and next; become aware of where numbers are used in everyday life such as numbers on houses, cars, buses, telephones; and attempt workbooks which involve an element of counting of shapes in the natural environment such as the different shapes of leaves, flowers, worms, shells, stones and butterflies; build with a variety of shapes, sizes and types of blocks; talk about the shapes of everyday objects such as plates, books, sandwiches, fruit, windows; and use a range of shapes to create pictures.

The child will understand and use prepositions such as under, beside, on, and in, when doing these workbooks understand the concept of size and quantity, for example while comparing quantities using language such as more, less, and the same; compare sizes of objects like buckets, hands; handle and talk about toys and equipment with different properties using language such as big, long, heavy, full, and empty; compare quantities of materials such as large and small, compare sizes of toys and equipment as they choose large and small wheeled toys or balls.

The ability to understand patterns
sequencing and time, as they become familiar with everyday routines such as recognizing simple cues that indicate that it is time to tidy up or go outside; sequence everyday routines and activities such as putting on a coat before going outside or dressing dolls from inner clothes to outer clothes; talk about festivals and learn about the passing of time. The child will learn about relationships, and what is the concept of matching objects such as lids to saucepans or dustpan to brush.

Progress in Learning

When parents set aside a “book time’ every day for their pre school children the child will being to understand early concepts of size and quantity. They will use mathematical language, such as heavy, light, full, empty, long, short, more, another, big and little in relevant contexts. Eventually they will begin to understand and use positional words, such as in front of, behind, above and below.

Personal, Social And Emotional Development

Upon entering formal school education, children will bring with them a variety of personal and social skills, values and attitudes. These are acquired relationships and experiences within the home and the immediate environment.

The DAI™ books help the child gain what they will do in school, as they would already have had a head start. They would be better equipped to make choices and help each other; organise their own play, including tidying up; and have the confidence and self-esteem that will help them to feel valued.

Probably the maximum benefit would be that the child would learn to observe, explore, investigate and select materials and equipment in a range of situations. Questions about why things happen and how things work. Recognising parts of the body and identifying a variety of familiar sounds while talking about their observations and make simple predictions about things like what would happen would have been already learnt.

The books might seem simple, but they follow a very carefully researched sequence as they work in tandem with the evolving brain. The activities are designed in such a manner that we expect an increase in I.O or the Intelligence Quotient of the child if the sequence is followed correctly* from the preschool level books to the primary or K.G. Level books.

In fact the experience of parents who have used these books for the last four years is promising to such an extent, as they have been designed keeping I mind the Indian educational system - that we hope the same experience will be replicated with your child.
