School Outreach and Awareness
As part of our commitment to serve children with dyslexia, The Dyslexia Association of India, undertakes training and outreach programs that are available to Schools and member of the community.
These programs and workshops are offered to students, parents, educators and are designed to increase understanding of dyslexia, provide assistance to educators and parents who work with children who have language-based learning differences, as well as allow for issues to be raised about the problems that may be being faced by teachers and parents.
Many students with learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, lose their enthusiasm for classroom work and feel hopelessly awkward and embarrassed in a mainstream peer group. They often reject compliments and encouragement from friends and family members because they think they are being consoled or patronized.
We have seen the progress that is possible when correct information is imparted and educators and parents are able to fully appreciate that the afflicted children need to be removed from the emotional pressures of an "age-grouped" classroom and placed in a “true” peer environment. This is a setting where uneven academic performance is the norm. In this environment, it is possible to recover lost self-esteem.
The outreach programme works towards ensuring that awareness amongst educators, teachers and parents and family helps dyslexic children recover lost self-esteem, reawaken the desire to learn and discover how normal they truly are.
